The Metering and Bill Compute team provides the services that calculate bills for every customer on the largest cloud provider in the world. Without our services, customers will not receive accurate, timely, and consolidated billing data. Discounts would be manually applied, and there would be no way for customers to see updated billing data on a daily basis. We consume almost 3B usage records per second and generate bills 3x a day to give customers near real-time billing data. Beyond the impact we have on our customers and our business, this space is filled with complex challenges to deliver billing accuracy at scale while remaining cost efficient. We help drive accuracy for our Service teams by tapping into our quadrillions of data and using big data technologies to identify pattern anomalies. We are rearchitecting how we compute bills by moving to a distributed architecture so we can achieve scale as we expand to more regions and add more customers. And we tackle these complex challenges using innovative technologies such as EMR, Spark, and EKS.We are looking for a Senior Manager, Software Development to lead the team in designing and building systems and new initiatives. Learn more about Amazon on our Day 1 Blog: https://blog.aboutamazon.comAbout the teamAWS Billing is the team that delivers information to AWS customers about their activities in the cloud, enabling them to move into AWS with confidence. It enables service teams to do business with AWS customers: pricing products in a way that makes sense, expanding products across global sellers of record, and launching new products. It is the one team that touches not only every service team, but every customer, generating millions of invoices worth over $3.5 billion per month based on a number of transactions that needs scientific notation to specify {1 quadrillion for the internal version}. The billing system needs to keep up with the total aggregate growth of AWS, and must do so while building important new functionality for our customers. The ultimate challenge in distributed systems is to deliver features that matter to an emerging customer base at the highest levels of audited quality, while scaling at the limits of computer science. We need a leader who can own the billing process from metered transactions through invoice issuance with all that lies in between, including bill computation, estimated billing, and tax.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
