This position will be responsible for preparing and reviewing U.S. indirect tax returns, account reconciliations, notice resolution and use tax determinations, in addition to implementing process efficiencies and improvements while embracing new technologies. ITC's compliance projects have a high impact on the tax organization.
Key job responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Prepare monthly U.S. indirect tax filings for Amazon & subsidiaries including, but not limited to, Sales Tax, Use Tax, Gross Receipts Taxes and Regulatory Fees
- Reconciliation of transaction tax general ledger accounts and related SOX controls
- Develop and implement process improvements across indirect tax reporting functions, including refinements to current processes and work-papers and utilizing technology to improve and enhance workflow
- Research and document transaction tax filing issues, positions and processes
- Partner cross-functionally with Audit, Planning and other tax, accounting and technology teams
- Mentor and develop compliance team members
A day in the life
A U.S. Indirect Tax Manager is an individual contributor but collaborates regularly with other ITC team members, as well as other tax teams, to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting, account reconciliations and other tax accounting tasks. The role partners with other teams to ensure end to end state & local tax coordination. A Tax Manager also participates to technology projects and process improvements, which provides opportunities for growth.
About the team
The U.S. ITC team's ownership includes U.S. indirect tax compliance as well as sales & business license registrations and business license renewal. ITC has team members in offices in Seattle, Arlington and Hyderabad, India.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of maintaining and operating transaction tax calculation software (e.g. Vertex) experience
- Experience with VBA, Python, SQL, or other database language

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
