We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Business Intelligence Engineer (Sr. BIE) to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for our fast-growing advertising portfolio. As a Sr. BIE, you will play a key role in shaping the product vision and driving monetization strategies for ad products like Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Author and Brand Stores, Posts, and the Amazon Demand Side Platform. These tools help book advertisers – from large publishing houses to independent authors – to differentiate their brands, build loyalty, and drive awareness and sales across Amazon’s diverse platforms, including Amazon.com, Kindle, Audible, and Goodreads.
You will be embedded within the Books Ads Product team, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders such as finance, tech, data science, and operations to develop insights and shape strategic decisions. As a Sr. BIE, you will be instrumental in analyzing and presenting complex data to inform product direction, drive innovation, and optimize ad performance for book advertisers. This person will have solved complicated problems with elegant, simple solutions. They must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. High judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytic talent, and leadership are essential to success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
Use analytical and statistical rigor to identify performance gaps and opportunities for optimization. Own the design, development, and maintenance of datasets, ongoing metrics, analyses and dashboards to drive key business decisions. Create effective mechanisms for understanding feature level opportunities, continually improving ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers. Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting. Partner closely with Books Ads Product Team to work backwards from the end state for customers to define product and design requirements, and establish and measure success criteria in ambiguous areas like performance optimization. Represent the quality and growth of business in organization-wide business reviews and documents.
A day in the life
As a Sr. BIE on the Books Ads team you will work backward from the customer and use your analytical and statistical rigor to identify business opportunities and drive business decisions, and also suggest ways to improve processes and incorporate operational excellence best practices. You will partner with product, engineering, science, and design to articulate and execute the strategy and roadmap for improving books advertising performance and customer experience for shoppers, readers, and book advertisers. This will entail setting the long-term vision while maintaining a high velocity of experimentation and launches. You will represent their business in reviews with senior leadership and key stakeholders across Amazon.
