The Grocery Supply Chain team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Intelligence Engineer to design, build, and maintain a world-class Grocery Inventory business intelligence platform. Our team is responsible for measuring the effectiveness of Amazon's growing Grocery businesses, providing actionable performance metrics in a format that is easily digestible at the highest levels of the organization.

In this role, you will highlight areas of risk and opportunity, identify performance outliers, and support data-driven business decisions. You will scientists, engineers, product managers, and business leaders in developing strategies for organizational-wide investments and prioritizing their importance. You will build and maintain cross-functional databases and develop Business Intelligence reporting and dashboarding solutions used by a wide variety of users supporting our Grocery business.

Collaboration with business owners to define key business questions and build datasets that provide answers will be essential. Your deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and business use of large datasets will be crucial. You will design, implement, and operate stable, scalable, and cost-effective data flow solutions from production systems to the data warehouse and end-user applications.

Key job responsibilities
• Engage with leadership and diversified functional groups to understand the needs and recommend business intelligence solutions.
• Own the design, implementation, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards, to drive key business decisions.
• Partner with technology teams to define, extract, transform, and load data from many data sources using SQL and other tools.
• Automate and simplify self-service or reporting pipelines, including improving ETL workflows, automatic alarming and performance tuning.
• Conduct deep dive analyses of business problems and data issues and formulate conclusions and recommendations for leadership and technical teams.
• Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions and provide data insights. Challenge business teams to think differently about how they digest and use the data insights to make informed decisions.
• Make recommendations for new metrics, techniques, and strategies to improve business KPI's.
• Be connected and influential within the Amazon BIE community. Work with Data engineering, Software development teams to enable the appropriate capture and storage of key data points.

A day in the life
• Understand a broad range of Grocery Supply Chain data resources/processes.
• Partner with internal stakeholders across multiple teams, gathering requirements and delivering end to end solutions.
• Partner with Scientist and Product Managers to define data and BI development needs.
• Conduct deep dive analyses of business problems and formulate conclusions and recommendations; determine optimized courses of action to deliver comprehensive BI solutions.
• Synthesize requirements into technical specifications to solve ambiguous business problem and outline analytical solutions.
• Design, develop and maintain scalable and reliable analytical tools, dashboards, and metrics that drive key business decisions.
• Simplify and automate reporting, metrics and dashboards; build solutions to have maximum scale and self-serviceability by users.
• Handle multiple projects at once, deal with ambiguity and rapidly-changing priorities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of professional or military experience
- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with AWS technologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in statistics, data science, or an equivalent quantitative field
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
