Key job responsibilities
• Hire, motivate, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, providing them with appropriate opportunities to succeed in their career objectives.
• Drive charter and roadmaps with your team, management, and principal stakeholders.
• Ensure timely execution of key deliverables, removing blockers and reducing execution risks.
• Work closely with the leadership team to provide input on OP1, roadmaps, and strategic discussions.
• Be deeply involved with engineers to architect and develop the best technical designs and approaches.
• Build operational excellence to reduce lead times and maintain the operations of critical services.
• Clearly communicate technical decisions and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A day in the life
You will directly manage a team of engineers working across multiple high-scale services. You will attend standup and sprint ceremonies, review technical designs, meet with other engineering, product and UX leaders from across Prime Video, and offer regular career and technical guidance to your team. You will also be an active participant in the organization through attending review meetings, goal reviews, project update meetings and customer sessions.
About the team
Playback Intelligence comprises multiple teams that own the customer facing tooling for accessing petabytes of data in a readily consumable format, real-time monitoring and insight generation systems, as well as working on optimization algorithms and systems for improving playback performance.
The charter of the team involves developing systems that generate actionable metrics, datasets, insights, and intelligence which consumers can explore via tools, dashboards, ML systems or APIs to automate actions. We love data and the value we can deliver to our customers through automated analysis of that data whilst at all times doing so with appropriate security and privacy controls. We also know that numbers are of little use without context, and to that end have empowered our users by creating and exposing KPIs and associated insights to users through a variety of interfaces including intuitive web applications that offer a guided flow every step of the way from analyzing top level metrics down to exploring a single streaming session. We additionally strive to automate data exploration where we can, and are investing into new machine learning models to identify the top items our teams should focus on to improve overall customer experience with the entire Prime Video platform. The team also owns optimization algorithms and systems to vend the right heuristics to optimize customer's streaming experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
