Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager at Amazon, you will take your technical experience to a new level by leading a team of engineers to deliver consumer devices that enable Amazon services in the homes of our customers. In the primary scope of this role you and your team will own new frameworks for building visual apps for Amazon devices. These critical frameworks will make it faster and easier than ever for application developers to write software for our devices. If you have a passion for on-device software, and making it easy for app developers to create interactive visual experiences, this is an ideal position for you. This role will allow you to push the boundaries of what customers can do by driving efficient and scalable solutions. You will focus on common software that runs across device types, giving you scale to solve multiple use cases at once. You will be challenged to create rich customer applications, while also optimizing for performance and ease of use by customers.

A day in the life
You will be a part of an agile development team following innovative best practices in software development where you'll lead a team on technical designs and architecture. To build our app based experiences you will interact with product teams to gather requirements, support feasibility analysis and to provide technical solutions that are required in defining our next generation products. One of the important aspects of the role is to develop the best, and you’ll have opportunities to build a team and mentor others by sharing your knowledge across multiple teams as we build a truly unique UI app development experience.
About the team
Our team exists to enable application teams to swiftly create delightful, performant, and interactive UI experiences that span across Amazon and our external partner devices. We are responsible for delivering UI frameworks and foundational pieces that are critical for UI application development and we do so by showing the utmost customer obsession. As a part of the Device OS organization, you’ll get to interact and work with multiple teams to develop an ecosystem end to end covering product conception to shipping on the vast number of Amazon devices in the field.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- 5+ years of experience with at least one programming language such as C++, Python or Java.
- Strong business writing, verbal communication, and cross discipline collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
