As an engineer in the AWS Game Tech organization you will have significant impact on the design and architecture of the service. You will lead and own critical components from inception to deployment.
An ideal candidate for this role enjoys working on complex software problems, possesses analytical, design and problem-solving skills, and is experienced in building and operating large scale systems. You will design and build new features, identify and investigate new technologies, prototype solutions, and test and review changes, to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Customer obsession, strong judgment and communication skills, long term technical vision, and continuous focus on engineering and operational excellence are essential for the success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, you will:
- Own design, development, test, deployment and operation of highly available, secure systems
- Be responsible for ensuring sanity of architecture, operational excellence and quality, delivering results on time.
- Work closely with other teams across AWS and Amazon to deliver features that require cross-team leadership.
- Obsess over simplifying enterprise scale commerce complexity.
- Mentor other engineers and interns on the team.
- Regularly dive into architecture, code, test plans, project plans, deployments and operations to drive excellence throughout our organization.
A day in the life
On a typical day you might:
- Design and implement new features and services for customers
- Work with principal engineers and developers across teams to decide on an architectural approach for a new product or feature
- Provide support, guidance and coaching to your team to grow their skills, overcome obstacles, and help them tackle new challenges
- Tackle systematic problems and improve how your team operates, both internally and when interacting with other teams
- Advise managers and senior leaders of the options to deliver a customer request, and the tradeoffs involved

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
