Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Network Engineer, it is a “hands-on” engineering leadership role, and requires to have backbone on recommendations and decisions that affect the way we create, build, and evaluate engineering solutions. Your views are influential in which engineering directions we invest in, the internal and external partners we collaborate with, and the outcome results. You grow other engineering leaders, mentoring and coaching them and develop engineering knowledge and application widely across the organization through educating leaders at multiple levels. You acquire expertise yourself to keep across trends and steer Prime Video in the best direction to invest and the benefits that will accrue from that. Your influence stretches across multiple, diverse teams, globally, and across organizational boundaries. Our engineering overall is stronger, our understanding of network engineering topics is deeper and broader, and the programs we invest in generate impactful outcomes through your leadership.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor or master degree with engineering experiences in computer science or in a highly quantitative field
• 10+ years working experiences and expertise in network related areas
• Background of programming in Java, C/C++, Python or related language
• Evidence and experience of complex engineering designs and deployments in prod directly customer facing at large scale in network domain, including authentication and authorization, connection establishment, edge security and edge caching, QoS metric optimizations, and delivery capacity planning, balancing and cost efficiency improvements, across regions and countries in the world globally.
• Both theoretical understanding and hands-on engineering of state-of-art broad and complex network system designs, concepts and prod deployments, with deep and demonstrable expertise
• Conversant with all state-of-art approaches to network technologies and scenarios, and recent and forward-looking long-term advances
• Fluent in network transport protocols, such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and QUIC, and video streaming protocols, such as MPEG-DASH, HLS etc. and their low-latency extensions .
• Expertise in layer-2 networking techniques in different ISP environments, Routing and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), AWS Virtual Private Cloud architecture (blackfoot), etc. on backbone network and data center, besides last-mile network.
• Working knowledge of video delivery, such as video streaming, video conferencing, cloud gaming, and video surveillance at scale.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiar with satellite and microwave communications networks, including Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO), Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) infrastructures and architectures.
• Experience with deep telecommunications, WiFi knowledge, cellular communication and antena designs, and network infra and operations.
• Experience developing and protecting intellectual property such as patents and interacting with legal teams
• Connections, contributions and leading involvement with academic and professional institutions, industry groups, standards bodies and conferences.
• Experience developing engineering and science talents either in academia as a PhD advisor or in industry as a senior leader.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $189,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $294,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
