Key job responsibilities
-Providing day-to-day and strategic advice to business partners on new and existing initiatives and key negotiations
-Advising on, drafting, and negotiating a variety of agreements, with particular focus on publishing and content licensing agreements
-Identifying legal risks and proposing mitigation strategies
-Working cross-functionally with legal and non-legal teams
-Some travel, domestic and international, may be required

The Books Legal team supports Amazon’s Books business, including our in-house publisher, Amazon Publishing. APub is a leading trade publisher of fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books with a mission to empower outstanding storytellers and connect them with readers worldwide. APub publishes emerging, bestselling and critically-acclaimed authors in digital, print, and audio formats. With Amazon’s drive for innovation and passion for books, APub merges technology and art to support authors and help their stories change the world.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience in transactional and technology licensing or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience in publishing or representing publishers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
