The AWS Training and Certification organization educates customers, partners, and AWS employees globally on AWS products, solutions, and best practices. We are seeking a talented and experienced data scientist to help solve challenging business problems through rigorous analytical methodologies for the AWS Training and Certification organization.

As part of the AWS Training and Certification (T&C) Business Insight and Analytics (BIA) team you will define business questions with stakeholders, explore different source data, develop statistical and/or machine learning models, and communicate the insight with business leaders. The right candidate will be passionate about working with large datasets and love to utilize the cutting-edge data science methods to answer complex business questions that support our decision makings as well as operational improvements.

We are looking for candidates who have a background in both statistical analysis methodologies and machine-learning models. A successful candidate should have the technical proficiency to query data in a Redshift data warehouse environment, structure data to be leveraged within data science models, and be able to develop insights from the analysis that are delivered to business stakeholders.


Key job responsibilities
• Clearly define business questions through an extensive requirement definition process with business stakeholders
• Translate the business questions into solvable data science problems and select the most appropriate statistical and/or machine learning methodologies to address the problems
• Autonomously build the data science models as well as access, gather, and explore source data leveraging SQL skills
• Implement statistical methods to solve specific business problems utilizing code (Python, R, etc.).
• Own the validation processes to generate the most accurate and usable output data
• Develop key insights from the analysis and write both business-facing as well as science summary documents for review
• Lead engagements with business stakeholders throughout the data science projects and ensure timely deliverables


A day in the life
This role's primary focus is working with business stakeholders, business intelligence and data engineers, and other data/research scientists across the teams within AWS T&C and beyond. A typical day will include meetings to define problems or review analysis and time to explore data, test models, and write summary reports. These insights will be used to make better business decisions and implement more productive business processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience
- Experience with data scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, or equivalent) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab, or equivalent)
- Experience with SQL

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Are enrolled in or have completed a Master's degree or above in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science
- Experience in manipulating/transforming data, model selection, model training, cross-validation and deployment at scale
- Knowledge of statistical packages and business intelligence tools such as SPSS, SAS, S-PLUS, or R

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $97,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $206,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
