Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Hiring and growing a team of programmer/technical writers and editors.
- Defining the overall content strategy across specific developer tools (e.g., source control, build tool, test tool, etc.) and end-to-end development workflows (e.g., writing software that uses Amazon Web Services, writing software for mobile devices, etc.).
- Leading the direction for the documentation authoring tools used by writers and software development teams.
- Collecting feedback from your customers on how to best improve the documentation using existing feedback mechanisms, inventing new ones, or just plain ol’ talking to customers—our teams use our tools.
- Influencing the product direction of the tools your team collaborates with to provide an ideal development experience.

The Software Builder Experience organization you’ll be a part of includes product teams located across multiple locations, including Seattle, Arlington, and Sydney.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Degree in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or a related field; in lieu of this degree, relevant work experience will be considered.
- 5+ years' experience in a technical writing role
- 5+ years' experience writing for a developer or IT operations (DevOps) audience
- 5+ years' experience writing code or automation scripts as part of published documentation
- 5+ years' experience working on multiple documentation projects simultaneously with competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong ability to work across teams and groups to accomplish objectives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with web services
- Experience with an object-oriented programming language such as Java, Ruby, or C#
- Experience with an automation scripting framework such as bash shell scripting, Windows batch scripting, or Windows PowerShell
- Experience with command-line tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $215,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
