Our team tackles some of the most challenging problems in availability, scalability, security and performance to build a global service. At Route 53, we serve billions of customer DNS queries a day with a daunting and realistic 100% availability SLA. Route 53 at AWS is a tier-zero networking service and as a result, our operational bar is very high. We are a core service to all AWS and interact directly with customers and their end-users.
Your primary responsibilities will include: developing new services and features; writing and building infrastructure-as-code; designing systems; addressing availability, performance and capacity issues; and helping us to operate our global service, running the service end-to-end. You will need to perform data analysis to optimize our products and keep raising our operational bar. You will troubleshoot, diagnose and fix production software issues by: developing automation for infrastructure build-outs; developing monitoring solutions; performing software maintenance and configuration; implementing fixes for internally-developed code (Ruby, Java, JavaScript); and, updating, tracking and resolving interesting technical challenges.
We would love to hear from your if you are detail-oriented, having great verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, able to juggle multiple tasks at once, able to work independently and can maintain a professional approach under pressure. You must have the mindset and attitude to identify problems before they happen and implement solutions that detect and prevent outages. We hope you're an individual who enjoys working in teams, be able to prioritize your workload, and maintain a high bar in making designs while operating our services. You will also be a technical mentor for other engineers.
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we're building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship, while having fun and having a great work-life harmony. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future. This way, we all win together.
Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives. This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every three months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.
Inclusive and Diverse
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Mentorship & Career Growth
