A software builder becomes an operator when taken away from building and deploying code. Specifically, this includes on-call and incident response, retrospectives, remediation plans, taking corrective actions, setting up metrics and monitoring, operational readiness verification, and application safety and security reviews and improvements. Because of the business-critical nature of these actions, engineering teams are looking for ways to streamline these processes without causing more operational load. Our builders want to operate their services with minimal interruption and friction, and to avoid needless complexity and distraction. This enables them to do more of what they love: build for their team’s customers.
We are looking for a seasoned product manager to help shape the operational experience to provide a streamlined, integrated, and safe experience that benefits all of Amazon and reduces operational overhead for our builders. You will work on the product strategy for creating this operator experience that measurably improves software builders’ experience at Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
The variability of operational responsibilities at Amazon means you will need to understand the landscape and challenges that face our software builders when they assume the role of an operator.
* You will work cross-functionally with engineers, other product managers, program managers, and senior leaders. The team is at the center of Amazon-wide initiatives that limits human access to infrastructure and ensures safe changes to production systems.
* Lead execution of the product strategy with a high-level of discipline and engagement with the development teams.
* Drive adoption growth of rolled out solutions, assess open opportunities to reduce operator toil.
* Work with the team that shapes these programs to create a low friction operational experience.
* You will partner closely with the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) User Experience team of UX researchers and designers to understand the customer journey to design products and features that power the experiences.
Mentorship and Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. ASBX’s product managers enjoy mentoring and on-boarding new team members through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, document reviews.
We also care about your career growth. We assign projects that help each team member develop into a better-rounded product manager and enable them to take on more complex features and services over time.
Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
About the team
We empower Amazon's software builders to safely and reliably operate their services in production by providing them with tools that enforce change safety and enable operational insights with minimal friction. We aim to provide our customers with efficient mechanisms to perform critical operational functions so that they can get back to building products that delight their customers.
What do we mean by "the best software builder experience in the world"? It means that Amazon is the best place in the world for software builders to build great things for customers. Software builders and builder leaders know it from the insights they see—and feel it in the experience of their everyday work. Others in the industry know it—and want to come to Amazon to experience it.
