The AWS Component Software and Services team designs, develops, operates the services and software used to operate our hardware infrastructure used by across the entire AWS server fleet. Consequently, we own some of the most sophisticated software anywhere, including hardware integrity validation, performance benchmarking, hardware system monitoring, diagnostics tools, and health metrics for hardware.
Optimizing the dynamics of ever-changing environmental conditions, monitored with millions upon millions of sensors, is a massive challenge, and we love it!
We are looking for a seasoned Software Development Manager to lead a team that builds and operates the services, infrastructure, software, and tools to build, track, and operate all the hardware across the AWS server fleet. You will lead a team of world-class software developers who thrive on creating innovative, scalable solutions for real-world infrastructure business problems. You will lead development efforts to build, validate and support server performance monitoring services, automated firmware deployment systems, services for monitoring hardware health, and automation for our thermal/mechanical test infrastructures panning all AWS servers using large-scale distributed software systems, built with proprietary and open source technologies.
The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative, hands-on leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing infrastructure software tools used for ensuring our hardware meets the highest possible quality bar.
As a leader, you will set the direction for a team of highly motivated software developers that thrives on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team couples deep knowledge of the software stack operating within a cloud environment, software development skills set and scalable software engineering techniques to solve real world infrastructure problems.
You will lead new feature development efforts from concept to launch and beyond. You will establish strategic vision and drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services. This is a fast-paced position where you will be challenged to think on your feet. You’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
