Come set the strategy to power AWS while hitting Climate Pledge and Water Positive goals. In this role, you will lead a team of professionals responsible for delivering gigawatts of large scale power and water infrastructure in partnership with utilities, regulators and energy companies across multiple AWS regions throughout AMER, focuses in the central US. The candidate will grow and manage a diverse team actively delivering dozens of high voltage transmission and substation builds across these different geographies. They will work with utilities to develop new water treatment facilities and miles of pipelines to convey water that will propel Amazon towards Water Positive. They will evaluate opportunities to optimize total cost of ownership by managing capital and operating expenses. The candidate will originate and execute scaleable strategies, mechanisms and programs to achieve these outcomes, working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will manage utility interactions, work with internal and external engineering, real estate and planning teams to evaluate data center sites and develop the electric infrastructure strategy to serve those sites, and lead the execution of these power infrastructure strategies, including but not limited to project managing the utility, EPC and/or Owners Engineer to meet AWS’ needs. The candidate will lead an integrated team to implement energy program requirements and deliver tangible reliability and cost saving results.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background in the MISO/SPP/ERCOT and South East ISO/RTOs. A proven track record of delivering innovative energy projects, and experience managing high-impact fast-pace teams is a must. The candidate will have experience working with regulated and nonregulated electric utilities to develop, negotiation, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, and related tariffs and agreements. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you and your team will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s regional infrastructure expansion are met.

This role requires some domestic travel (less than 40%).

Key job responsibilities
· Manage diverse team owning the end-to-end scope for delivering and managing power and warer capacity to AWS data centers.
· Manage strategy that develops large scale (GW+) infrastructure, while driving out cost and carbon.
· Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects in first of kind financing structures.
· Work with utility regulators to develop strategies, policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS goals.
· Develop alternative technology and ownership strategies roadmaps.



A day in the life
An individual in this role will lead team one-on-one, regional Monthly Business Reviews, partner with key stakeholder to review capacity, CAPEX, and OPEX planning, and other implement mechanisms that drive the regional team forward. They are the face of AWS to the regional electricity grids and external executive teams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
· 10+ years of experience working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical or infrastructure delivery role
· 4+ years of experience developing and delivering Medium Voltage and High Voltage electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role with both internal and external stakeholders
· 4+ years of experience analyzing energy projects and negotiating contracts with utilities and contractors
· 2+ years of experience managing team of professionals working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development, technical or infrastructure delivery role and working within the data center space, merging the planning and execution processes of data center companies with regional utilities and regulated entities


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent financial/business/commercial experience
· Experience successfully negotiating utility connection agreement, energy infrastructure contracts, and/or new tariff rates in regulatory environments
· The ability to both directly and as a team manager, manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem solving skills
· Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 34.5kV or greater energy infrastructure
· Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators within the region
· Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services
· Strong Bias for Action with an ability to look around corners and deliver results for the business

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $302,900/year in our highest geographic market.
