Our mechanical design team is growing to match an ever-expanding need for data storage by our customers. Due to this growth, we need a collaborative, organized, and innovative Acoustical Design Engineer (ADE) to executing acoustical studies. This project work will consist of overseeing and performing sound surveys, acoustical modeling, and mitigation design. This role will require you to apply your skills to collaborate and innovate new acoustical strategies and designs for AWS Projects. Additional duties include answering construction Requests for Information, developing acoustical Scopes of Work, and writing technical documents. In this role, the ADE will work with a best in class group of engineers to produce construction documents for bidding and assist senior engineers with detailed project work.
As a subject matter expert, you will ensure that contractors have the information they need to build our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of this role you will work with internal and external stakeholders, including design engineers, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, and other service providers. You will be part of a global team, and you will be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen.

Key job responsibilities
• Manage acoustical studies of projects including surveys, modelling, and mitigation design.
• Work with third party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established acoustic design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
• Be responsible for providing high quality acoustic engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally while working with global engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives.
• Performing acoustical modelling on a variety of data centers and supporting infrastructure.
• Innovating improvement of acoustic design standards and project approaches across the organization.
• Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
• This position will require up to 25% travel.

• Participate in project calls to collaborate with all stakeholders.

• Conduct sound modelling of projects.

The Data Center Design Engineering team at Amazon Web Services consists of Architects, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Fire Protection, Acoustic and Controls Engineers working to design the next generation of data centers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to acoustics, sound, or an equivalent degree in a related field (engineering, physics, math, etc.).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of acoustics, including sound mitigation strategies for mechanical equipment.
• Strong knowledge acoustics industry standards, procedures, and methodologies. Experience applying local codes requirements, building industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with processes of design review, specification, development of design standards, and submittal review. Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.), including authoring white papers and technical documentation.
• Experience directly related to construction of mission critical, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale mechanical and power systems.
• Experience using CadnaA/R, Sound Plan or other acoustic modelling software. Development processes for codes and standards; acoustical technical committee participation. Performance-based alternatives to prescriptive acoustics and sound mitigation and design.
• Advance knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems commissioning. Strong business analytics skills, and written and verbal communication
• Membership in Institute of Noise Control Engineering, Acoustical Society of America, or other industry certifications.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
