You will be responsible for transforming the experience drivers have as they navigate to customer doorsteps. Your team will be responsible for building the location, orientation, and user activity (e.g., driving, walking) provider that will power visual maps, navigation, and other workflows that rely on accurate signals generated by processing sensor data (e.g., GPS, accelerometer, magnetometer) on the device. Your team will use state of the art map matching, location snapping and other algorithmic techniques to refine sensor inputs and create a highly precise signal for driver facing workflows. You will power the experience that delivery drivers use for majority of their day for both Amazon Flex, a crowd-sourced delivery opportunity for contractors, and Amazon Logistics, a delivery service comprised of small and medium sized businesses who deliver Amazon packages to customer’s doorstep.
You will be expected to build and grow a team that works on real-time sensor processing techniques, ML models for high volume event processing, and novel applications of geospatial data driven location correction techniques. You will have an enormous opportunity to impact the customer experience, design, architecture, and implementation of technology across both your team and partner teams that enable the end-to-end driver journey.
A successful candidate will have an established background in mobile app development (iOS/Android) and in building highly scalable and mission critical software libraries, with extensive technical knowledge of development techniques and latest practices. They will have a passion for managing engineering talent in a fast-paced environment, the ability to drill down into low-level details when necessary and possess exceptional project management and communication skills.
In this role, you will need to draw from your deep technical expertise to hire and mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues. You will manage and be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects. You will play a critical role in broad business planning and influence our long-term technical and business strategy.

Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for the over-all systems development life cycle of key product sub-systems
- Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
- Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
- Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
- Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
