We are seeking a dynamic, passionate self-starter to join the Global Road Safety Assurance team as a Program Manager supporting the Americas region. This role will be focused on ensuring the performance and effectiveness of safety risk controls to enable Amazon to safely scale as the largest package delivery service on the planet. Additionally, this role will ensure the organization exceeds its safety objectives through collecting, analyzing, and assessing information. Amazon is constantly innovating and our operations must evolve with the business to ensure we maintain the highest safety standards for our Associates, third party transportation providers, and the general public.

You will manage a team of program managers who build audit/inspection protocols for our businesses, create metrics to evaluate risk control effectiveness, support qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, and knowledge of risk remediation/mitigation/control processes is strongly preferred. This role requires scoping large projects, managing project timelines, identifying safety gaps, and communicating to senior management on safety risks. Cross-team coordination, project management, executive presentation skills, a penchant for process improvement, and a proven history of delivering results are essential for success. A bias for action and comfort in dealing with ambiguity are a must. Often times it will not be clear how we will reach our end goal; you will be expected to help carve a path by taking risks and be willing to try new things, fail fast then iterate. Strong analytics and safety experience will be valued in an applicant.

Key job responsibilities
• Develop a team of safety assurance professionals as Amazon launches an industry-leading SMS in surface transportation
• Lead safety risk control testing framework development partnering with cross-functional teams. Responsible for identifying control improvements and building partnerships with teams to resolve identified risks
• Inform best-practices to document controls testing and audit findings. Monitor assurance methodologies from a process improvement perspective as the program grows. Build internal training programs to educate teams in safety assurance processes
• Review and inform transportation safety-related policies to drive policy improvements
• Lead audit strategy for compliance with over the road safety regulations, policies, standards, and procedures
• Analyze data to identify trends and provide recommendations for proactive control of safety risks
• Convey findings, including escalations, to stakeholders in a clear, easily digestible format
• Continuous process improvement; use the right metrics to measure policy quality and opportunities. Look around corners and anticipate safety challenges/obstacles the business could face and proactively developing a plan to address.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of team management experience
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years in a transportation, last mile delivery, safety, audit, or risk position
- Experience leading and managing a team of safety auditors
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Analytical and quantitative skills
- Risk assessment methodology experience that includes an understanding and practical knowledge of risk analysis, risk mitigation, risk management, risk matrix and development of risk criteria.
- Experience providing the necessary countermeasures to risk identified in risk assessments
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Comfort sharing findings with leadership
- Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience successfully managing complex and competing projects
- Experience working in a highly cross-functional organization
- Comfort transitioning from high level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (macros, pivots, lookups) at an advanced level
- Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field
- Experience defining risk management roadmaps / Safety Management Systems
- Proficiency with SQL
- Systems thinking; able to recognize patterns and trends in data, content and customer needs which will drive program design and delivery
- Experience using exceptional judgment in managing projects with high potential impact
- Have experience in generating automated metrics
- Preferred to possess or be working towards a certification related to safety, audit, or risk
- NEBOSH/CSP Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $225,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
