Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) is seeking an Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer to build hardware and software systems that utilize imaging sensors and computer vision to achieve perception based decisions. AFT Quality team is engaged in the development of systems for the collection and real-time processing of images, point clouds, weights, dimensions and other attributes of Amazon's inventory. These systems incorporate components from the hardware team (cameras, sensors, optics, electrical, mechanical and computation), from the software teams (device drivers, control, edge-processing, upload, web services and cloud processing), and from the science teams (algorithms, machine learning, computer vision, image and data analysis). This position will be responsible for working with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and specify systems that meet their needs, schedules and budgets.

Key job responsibilities
The role of an Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer is to develop technical strategy including: identify requirements, decompose into systems, subsystems and interfaces, identify potential solutions, perform trade studies, identify contraints and cross-functional tradeoffs, perform technical risk assessments, present conclusions to peers and senior management, develop plans and papers outlining technical approach, design/architecture, and test specifications, lead multi-disciplinary technology teams, facilitate and communicate architecture and system design with partner teams, address safety, reliability, usability and deployment at Amazon scale.

The person in this role is a technical leader that collaborates across hardware, software, science, product management and program management to achieve system results from concept through installation for prototype and for scalable solutions alike.

You should be comfortable engaging with all types of customers ranging from executives to developers, and warehouse operations staff. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where delivery time for new products and features is typically measured in months. AFT’s Quality team drives automation programs that leverage computer vision, machine learning, and other innovative technologies to prevent, detect, and correct potential inventory issues impacting fulfillment efficiency and customer satisfaction.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• BS in an engineering discipline and 6+ years of experience
• Understanding of systems engineering tools and best practices, and experience tailoring the processes to help new product development teams go fast
• Experience identifying and analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
• Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g., technical disciplines, subsystem teams, development partners)
• Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs
• Experience taking systems through the entire product lifecycle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MS or higher degree in engineering discipline
• Experience with one or more of the following: imaging sensors, lenses, lighting, optical design, ranging and depth sensors, high-throughput industrial machines, embedded software, real-time processing, computer vision, machine learning, generative AI

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
