Amazon's Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) team is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to join our Analytics team. We deliver business intelligence/data science solutions to a diverse community of internal customers dedicated to supply chain optimization and forecast accuracy. As a BIE, you must possess the ability to dive deep into large amounts of data, have a great business sense, curiosity, a proven ability to deal with complexity, and the desire to influence key strategic decisions with data-driven analysis and insights.
This position requires excellent statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and data engineering practices, and the ability to partner with various teams across Amazon. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, capable of working in a fast-paced environment, possess a strong attention to detail, and able to collaborate with internal customers to understand and transform business problems into requirements and deliverables.
Key job responsibilities
As a BIE on our team you will focus on exciting and challenging problems, including:
- Identifying, developing and executing analyses to uncover areas of opportunity and present business recommendations to reduce fulfillment cost, optimize resources and protect customer experience.
- Develop new forecasting models or improve existing approaches using scalable techniques.
- Reporting key insight trends, using statistical rigor to simplify and inform business teams of noteworthy story lines that impact the business.
- Working with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a variety of data sources using SQL, scripting language and AWS technologies.
- Continuously learning, evaluating and implementing various big-data technologies and solutions to optimize processing of extremely large data sets in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Recognizing and adopting best practices in reporting, analysis, data integrity, test design, validation, and documentation.
- Building automated data solutions and dashboards to enable your team to self-service data needs, allowing you to focus on answering hard and ambiguous problems.
About the team
The broad mission of the S&OP team is to align and optimize the Fulfillment Center (FC) network plan for labor and capacity constraints, ideal placement and purchasing volumes. We partner with internal stakeholders to continuously improve plan accuracy, visibility and tools to automate the planning process. Every week we provide an accurate short to medium term aggregate fulfillment plan for the US and CA fulfillment network in order to make local planning decisions at the FCs.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field
- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
- 3+ years of machine learning, statistical modeling and time series modeling
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
