The Enterprise Technology Team is seeking a Data Engineering Manager with technical breadth to own the design, planning, delivery, and operation of Kuiper's Data vending service. We are currently expanding our Data Engineering team and are looking for a proven technology manager with experience in people management, robust technical understanding and the drive and vision to take Kuiper Data Engineering to the next level.
The ideal candidate has deep technical skills in Data engineering, science, insights and optimization; this toolkit allows them to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of Kuiper's data producer and consumer communities. You'll do this by implementing sustainable processes and standards; driving optimization opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and improve quality without impacting service availability. Your Data Engineering domain expertise and knowledge of scaling data services to meet the changing and challenging needs of your customers are essential to making a significant impact in this role.

- Evaluate new technologies and tools for data infrastructure.
- Lead design and code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
- Monitor and optimize data infrastructure and pipelines for performance and reliability.
- Implement data governance, security, and privacy best practices.
- Establish incident management protocols and ensure effective team response.
- Work with business and product teams to understand data needs.
- Influence decision-making through data-driven insights.
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership on strategy, progress, and challenges.
- Monitor and optimize the cost of data infrastructure and services.
- Manage budget for tools, platforms, and services used by the team.
A day in the life
In this role you’ll interface with cross-functional teams including operators, information security, third-party vendors, and multiple IT infrastructure teams. You’ll join a diverse team of systems engineers, software developers, network engineers, and warehouse management systems experts.
Note : This position requires onsite work in Bellevue, Redmond, and Everett WA. This is not a remote position.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- 2+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience
- 2+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience
- 2+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience
- Experience managing a data or BI team
- Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing
- Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Strong proficiency in data engineering tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, ETL, data warehousing, distributed systems).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) for building scalable data solutions.
- Solid understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and designing large-scale data pipelines.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deliver them on time.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java or Scala.
- Expertise in data governance, security, and privacy practices.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and using planning tools to keep teams on track.
- Proven track record of driving technical strategy and influencing stakeholders across the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a passion for technical innovation.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Grafana) or business intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with automation and DevOps practices in the data engineering space.
- Experience with machine learning pipelines and integrating machine learning models into data workflows.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $153,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $264,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
