The role requires extensive field work within local government departments and agencies, and travel to infrastructure locations in Virginia as required.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop deep relationships with local government leaders in Virginia where AWS has infrastructure expansion and operations, lead and implement public affairs and policy strategies for the AWS infrastructure business.
- Assess and communicate potential regulatory and policy threats, develop mitigation strategies and policy positions, and coordinate external advocacy and outreach programs and key initiatives.
- Provide government relations and public affairs support for the AWS infrastructure team to ensure smooth operations.
- Seamlessly collaborate with internal customers including business development, real estate, legal, tax, economic development, and PR teams, among others
- Effectively communicate the scope and benefits of AWS investments to external stakeholders at all levels and across disciplines.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least 12 years of relevant experience in public policy, government relations, consulting, or similar roles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization such as real estate, legal, security, infrastructure, energy, and PR. Ability to work independently as required.
- Demonstrated ability to understand how technical language in legislative and regulatory proposals could affect corporate operations, identify business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal customers.
