The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day reactive media inquiries while also developing forward-looking scenario plans in preparation for potentially negative news cycles. This individual must be able to think quickly and communicate clearly to address complicated scenarios. This position requires excellent media relations skills, talent for collaboration, and exceptional writing skills including the ability to manage feedback and edits quickly and concisely.
The right candidate works effectively in a matrixed global organization, quickly builds effective working relationships, and an ability to maintain high standards under tight deadlines.
The position can be based in Nashville, Seattle, Arlington, or New York City.
Key job responsibilities
• Understand the Sustainability business with a finger on the pulse of category/industry trends and the evolving media landscape
• Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage tough stories, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development
• Communicate complicated sustainability, energy, decarbonization, and operational issues with a clear point of view, and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it
• Support the execution of reactive media engagement programs to help advance the company’s Sustainability initiatives including high-visibility milestone events, press facility tours and filming opportunities, and other reactive media relations activities
• Pay unrelenting attention to details
• Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson
• Work collaboratively across teams
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience dealing with international, national, regional and local media
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise in sustainability-related communications
- Successful management of complex and fast-moving communications in a deadline-oriented environment
- Experience working with executive level leaders
- Prior experience with steep learning curves, and the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $68,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $147,400/year in our highest geographic market.
