Project Kuiper is Amazon’s initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit communications satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities around the earth.

The Role:
Direct and manage the Austin Design Center responsible for defining, implementation (SOC / RTL / IP), and bring-up of Project Kuiper’s next generation custom SOC chips for multi-gigabit wireless broadband communications via Low Earth Orbit satellites and Amazon gateways. This is a unique opportunity to advance a groundbreaking solution pushing the boundaries of spectral and power efficiencies and customer internet experience. The team is responsible for designing SOC architecture and SOC / RTL implementation for primary baseband modem, local networking, compute cluster, meeting key design criteria (like overall customer bandwidth, power consumption, and costs), and unique design criteria for space systems. This is an opportunity to grow and manage a world-class IC development team while being part of a team developing a full solution from AWS to customers across a full vertical stack of the entire modem, RF, antenna wireless and networking systems being developed in house on top of the ASIC solutions built by this team.
Job responsibilities
In this role you will:
• Grow, manage, and develop top silicon development engineers and management
• Manage SOC architecture, silicon design, and back-end design in aggressive silicon technologies
• Develop advanced digital compute and communications systems, bring-up and test solutions based on your team’s designs
• Determine appropriate external IP from internal and external suppliers and integrate these into SOC solutions
• Drive trade-off analysis to benefit customer experience and optimization of people and silicon resources
• Drive backend solutions internally, with partners, and with external foundries
• Work closely with verification, software and communications systems teams
• Help develop appropriate CAD process and development environment specifics to your teams SOC solutions
• Learn about requirements and develop solutions for systems operating in space
• Assess future technologies, trends, and internal innovations to drive next generation solutions

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
