Position Overview:

Safe operation of our aircraft is key to the lives of our people, cost of operations, the ability to meet the needs of our clients, and maintaining our stellar reputation in the market.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining one’s capabilities. Maintain the highest level of fitness for duty as well as proficiency and currency by working to maintain knowledge of procedures and regulations, assigned aircraft, routes, airports, and FedEx policies.
  2. Learning and adapting with technology. Understand, learn, and adapt to a changing sphere of technological interfaces and functions.
  3. Planning and preparation. Coordinate with necessary parties, reviewing all critical information that may impact the flight identifying potential threats in each area as well as mitigation strategies.
  4. Adherence to regulations, procedures, and clearances. Comply with aircraft manuals, all country rules and regulations, ATC instructions and requirements and FedEx operating procedures for all phases of flight.
  5. Teamwork. Establish and confirm the division of labor on the flight deck, the individual roles of the crew and their responsibilities and inter-reliance to develop and confirm shared mental model.
  6. Aircraft Control Activities. Proficiently apply principles of energy management, aerodynamics and automation mode awareness and selection to control the aircraft in all phases of flight.
  7. Flight workload management activities. Manage, prioritize, and pace flight tasks to avoid overload or distractions.
  8. Navigation and interaction with aircraft systems. Adapt, evolve, and maintain proficiency in the rapidly evolving structure of navigation.
  9. Vigilance, analysis, and situational awareness. Know when and where to devote attentional resources to understand factors that may affect the flight.
  10. Decision - making. Continuously evaluate situational information, assess operational parameters and available resources to select and execute the best course of action.
  11. Leadership. Develop and prioritize action plan with clear roles and responsibilities.
  12. Effective communication. Acuity and tact in all forms of communication to all audiences, including non-verbal and visual/text.
  13. Brand representation. Be accountable and conscientious in maintaining professionalism in terms of conduct, demeanor, appearance, and respect for all customers and employees.

Additional Required Capabilities:

  • Knowledge of principles of Aerodynamics, Navigation and Engineering
  • Willingness to conform to the demands and expectations of the role of crew member at FedEx Express

Minimum Qualifications:

General

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • English language proficiency
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Accurate and timely decision making, including threat and error mitigation strategies
  • Close attention to detail
  • Ability to work during the day or night, including weekends and holidays
  • Punctual and reliable regular attendance
  • Current valid passport and any other necessary travel documentations

Regulatory (FAA, FCC, TSA, and DOT)

  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate
  • Current First Class Medical Certificate
  • Radiotelephone Operators Permit
  • Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge eligibility
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug test
  • Successful completion of Pilot Records Improvement Act (PRIA) evaluation

Flight Hours

  • 1500 hours total fixed-wing
  • 1000 hours PIC in jet aircraft is preferred; multi-engine turbo-prop aircraft, 12,500 pounds or greater; certain single engine turbo-prop aircraft, or combination thereof. A minimum of 500 hours PIC as described is required.

When evaluating flight hours, we consider several factors, including:

  • Complexity of aircraft flown
  • Nature and type of flight operations
  • Recency, quality, quantity, and verifiability of flight time and associated logs
  • Hours flown as PIC
  • Hours flown as instructor/evaluator
