Amazon is seeking a Business Development leader to build financial services and fintech partnerships that drive the development of new Amazon Lending products. The Amazon Lending team creates and manages a global portfolio of products for Amazon Sellers, including term loans, line-of-credit, merchant cash advance and other financial products offered to Amazon Sellers. As part of this team, this individual will be responsible for developing, executing, and managing partnerships and strategic initiatives with banks and fintech partners.

Amazon Sellers are an incredible opportunity to address a vast market segment and customer base, and is an area of high interest and growth for Amazon. The Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for complex multi-party deal negotiation and execution. This includes partnerships which grow our existing Lending products, as well as partnerships to develop and launch new lending solutions. The role will require close coordination with product teams, as well as cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Corporate Business Development, Legal, Finance, Risk, etc., and with external partners’ senior executives. This key role will be highly visible to Amazon leadership, and interact with senior leaders in various external partner organizations. You will need to work collaboratively with both internal and external teams.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience delivering on complex deal work and strategy, enjoys solving complex problems, works effectively with cross-functional teams and has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective negotiation and the ability to quickly build and nurture business relationships is key. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity; think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges; and a proven track record of earning trust with and influencing others. Candidates must exhibit a strong sense of ownership, and drive to have an impact.

The role can be based in Seattle, WA or New York, NY.


Key job responsibilities
- Manage strategic planning, negotiation and new partnership development with some of the largest financial institutions, card networks, and fintech providers
- Ensure best-in-class, deal management, from gaining internal strategic alignment and RFP development plus process management, to key milestone management and KPI / P&L alignment with financial services partners on opportunities of mutual interest.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to ensure Amazon’s customer, brand, and internal objectives are aligned to the deal strategy
- Develop and grow Amazon’s relationships with financial services and fintech partners, including their senior executives.
- Navigate and provide subject matter expertise on financial institutions, card networks and fintech provider landscape and market trends to execute deals supporting our growth.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 8+ years of business or partnership development experience and at least 4 years of payments or financial services experience.
- Experience executing lending product related partnerships to build and launch new financial services products.
- Strong executive presence, with the proven ability to influence senior leaders internally and externally.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to distill complex, ambiguous information with clear, analytical frameworks to drive decisions that consider long-term benefits and near-term results.
- Ability to lead executive-level meetings with internal and external parties
- Well-honed advisory skills in working with others to elicit information, to think objectively and analytically, and to influence outcomes positively.
- Ability to earn and keep trust with stakeholders from multiple functions, companies, and cultures.
- Bachelor’s degree, with proven analytical acumen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Thorough understanding of card network, lending and other financial services industry dynamics plus business models.
- Experience negotiating commercial deals with top financial institutions.
- MBA or advanced degree

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
