Key job responsibilities
• Define and develop large scale technical strategies across multiple team boundaries that are coordinated with internal and external stakeholders to drive AWS objectives. They define strategies where the problem may be ambiguous, and are able to deliver with complete independence when necessary. They use their strong expertise and high judgement to distill diverse inputs from customers and stakeholders to set a vision and design the right long-term solutions.
• Solve significantly complex or systemic problems by originating and delivering innovative and simplified technical and commercial solutions that are scalable. Their solutions account for technical problems relevant to other infrastructure and partner teams. These solutions are in form of technical papers, direct product feedback, delivered agreements, revised vendor contracts, new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), updates to existing SOPs, and Policies.
• Develop scalable and repeatable technical solutions that enable AWS to scale. They leverage their SME to identify root causes to business-critical technical issues, formulate a strategy and propose solutions to address root causes (e.g. design changed, single point of failure, regulatory changes, etc.), present and communicate proposed resolution to both technical & non-technical leadership. They are considered ‘go-to’ experts among their peers and stakeholders for their specific technical area and present to leadership via Operating Plan reviews, and technical strategy doc reads.
• Force multiply by creating scalable mechanisms, methodologies, and best practices that can be adopted across the organization and integrate into multiple systems to provide new functionality and strategies for capacity delivery.
• The primary escalation point for their specific area of expertise and tie-break tough technical / business issues with the right resources. They evaluate proposals, deals from the broader team on their technical and commercial merit and make tough calls on short vs long term trade-offs. Act as an approver for major commercial deals and technical policies before they are sent to L8+ approvals.
• Play a significant role in mentoring and developing others and educating the larger community on best practices and strategies. They provide promo assessments for members within and outside of their organization. They participate heavily in hiring.
• Mobilize in critical projects where on-site SME level effort is determined as required due to new region complexities, first-of-kind deployments, or projects at severe risk that can’t be mitigated with in-place resources.
