As the Regional Safety Engineer, you will lead the implementation of health and safety standards and support our business partners to driver safety culture in the responsible sub-regions. Some of the key aspects of this role will include, but will not be limited to, developing safety requirements and monitoring compliance, delivering safety training, conducting risk assessments, preparing emergency response standards and carrying out audits in all the related spaces across multiple jurisdictions. As a result, there will be extensive travel required (approximately 40-50%) throughout US.
Each day you will work with the people who make run the cloud. You will work closely with experts in Security, Project expansion, Operations, Logistics, Compliance and Corporate Counsel to further enhance our global health and safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. As AWS deploys new products and expands into new locations, you will partner with key stakeholders to ensure risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations and then support the safe ongoing operation of these facilities. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.
The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, who sends clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and public speaking forums. You will advise, instruct and train company personnel on safety policies and procedures, as well as assist the teams in incorporating and improving our safety standards.
This role will report to the Global Manager – Edge Safety.
Key job responsibilities
- Support the implementation of health and safety standards, policies and practices including but not limited to; safety management systems, training, risk assessments, assist with industrial hygiene assessments, and applicable safety regulations.
- Conduct health and safety audits of the Colocation Data Centers to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements as well as life safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance and implementation of global health and safety programs that exceed regulatory requirements.
- Develop health and safety plans for on-site emergencies, business continuity, and other unique events.
- Maintain safety record keeping and data integrity.
- Perform data trend analysis to present to cluster leadership to support business and safety initiatives.
- Consult and partner with the AWS H&S Program team and Legal teams for interpretations and guidance.
- Identify risks and partner with Operations and other stakeholders to mitigate them via the hierarchy of controls.
- Daily interactions with our stakeholders delivering health and safety guidance.
- Work as part of a global team and provide safety support to facilities across other states and countries when required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum four year college degree in a health and safety, physical science, related field or equivalent experience in health and safety management.
- 3 or more years with a degree, or 5 or more years without a degree of field health and safety experience in general industry or construction.
- 1 or more years of experience designing, revising, and implementing health and safety processes and procedural documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting technical groups such as IT, Engineering, and facility management, or physical plant operations, such as electrical and mechanical systems
- CSP or CIH certification.
- Experience with detailed hazard recognition and preparation of written assessments/proactive remedies.
- Knowledge of applicable region specific federal, state, and local health and safety regulations (OSHA standards).
- High ethical standards with proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information; excellent judgment, discretion and diplomacy.
- Self-directed and driven to deliver with quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information to leadership within AWS.
