Key job responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain automated reporting, dashboards (especially QuickSight), and analyses to enable our team to self-service of data needs, allowing you to focus on answering hard and ambiguous problems.
- Write high-quality SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL, Oracle).
- Ability to break down and solve complex problems while actively engaging with internal partners throughout the organization to meet and exceed customer service levels & transportation-related KPI’s
- Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting/analysis: data integrity, test design, validation, and documentation while driving scalable solutions.
- Understand data resources and know how, when, and which to use (and which not to use)
- Continue to move forward in the face of ambiguity and imperfect data. Find a solution around the problem that still maintains a high analytical bar. You do not suffer from “analysis paralysis”.
- Ability to manage through conflict with a positive, flexible and professional attitude
- Communicate analysis results and techniques, both verbally and in writing, clearly and confidently to peers and business partners.
- Explain analysis results to the stakeholders through verbal and written communications.

Time & Distance Authority is an internal Amazon service that provides authoritative data on time and distance based events such as transit times and mileage for any route and mode worldwide. This data is essential for pricing, planning, and executing the transportation network. Our guiding principle is to maintain the highest standards in distance and time inputs, ensuring accurate delivery promises for retail, shipping, and freight customers while enhancing safety for Amazon drivers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
- Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
