Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of over 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Based in Merritt Island, Florida at our primary processing facility, the Kuiper EHS Specialist will help support, develop, communicate, train, drive, manage, audit, improve, and measure Amazon’s Kuiper EHS performance. This role will include developing and enhancing EHS compliance and risk management processes. The EHS Specialist will lead initiatives to improve EHS performance across the Kuiper portfolio by promoting understanding, fostering engagement, influencing business unit leaders, and embedding EHS practices into daily operations.

Key job responsibilities
Support the development, management, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive safety, health and environmental programs and training designed to prevent injury or occupational illness to employees and to protect the environment.

Coordinate activities as they relate to safety, health and environment at the site in order to reduce occupational injuries, illnesses and environmental impact

Perform department specific safety surveys using inspection forms to ensure employees are utilizing safe work practices such as utilizing proper PPE, minimizing trip hazards, wearing fall protection etc.

Perform risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) for new processes and equipment

Conduct site inspections to identify hazards, potential risks and help drive improvements while recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics, fall protection, electrical safety, hazard and risk assessments, hazardous waste, air quality and storm water pollution prevention plan

Support and conduct EHS audits, developing action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.

Perform environmental inspections of the site at required cadence. This includes RCRA, stormwater, wastewater, SPCC, air permits and any other applicable permit or agency

Establish, manage and participate in safety committee functions

Available to work flexible shifts including days, nights and/or weekends.

A day in the life
Based in Merritt Island, FL, the EHS Specialist role will support the development and execution of Amazon Kuiper’s EHS compliance programs and be supported under the supervision of the Kuiper EHS Manager.
This role is accountable for supporting development and implementation of EHS programs, tools and standards aligned to Kuiper Global EHS policies. Key to this role is building and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of the organization from leadership to individual workers to support them in determining best in class methods to achieve compliance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

-Bachelor’s degree or higher in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field or relevant experience
-3+ years’ experience in EHS support, specifically in aerospace operations
-Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910
-Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity
-Experience maintaining confidentiality in matter involving security and/or personnel issues in the workplace
-Able to lift up to 49 pounds
-Able to stand/walk for up to 10 hours
-Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
-Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required
-Working knowledge of high-pressure gasses and cryogenics
-Ability to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks
-Ability to obtain and maintain a US Passport
-Ability and willingness to comply with the Government of French Guiana which mandates that travelers receive vaccinations for yellow fever or applicable government exemption

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-ASP, CSP, NEBOSH, CIH, or CHMM certifications
-Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer focus skills
-Experience leading and managing a team ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses
-Experience in emergency response and currently holds First Aid and CPR certificates
-Experience supporting compliance with CAA, RCRA, CWA and other local/state/federal environmental regulations
-Excellent at creating and maintaining working relationships across all levels and disciplines, receptive to feedback and input from others, and quick to apply changes.
-Experience with developing and implementing 5S programs
-Forklift, Aerial Lift and Fall Protection trainer
