Key job responsibilities
As a sustainability specialist, you will be working with Amazon devices cross-functional teams (across Hardware, Software, and Operations functions) to accelerate decarbonization areas including but not limited to energy efficiency, electronics component design and selection, sustainable materials, and circularity. You will serve as a subject matter expert in one sustainability domain (e.g. energy, environmental impact assessment, carbon, artificial intelligence) and use your skills to assess risks and/or resolve sustainability related problems in devices specific domain. You should be comfortable working with a wide variety of data, collaborating effectively with business owners at director level as well as engaging with LCA scientists/academics/NGOs to help advance Amazon Devices’ sustainability goals. You are expected to have a solid understanding of sustainability industry-specific domain practices, regulations, trends, and challenges, and be able to provide advice and guidance to colleagues and customers on how to navigate the sustainability technical, scientific, regulatory and reputational environment successfully.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience conducting life cycle assessments (LCAs) or material flow analysis (MFA) of products or services, or knowledge of manufacturing, design, development, and sourcing. The successful candidate must have strong analytical skills and the ability to apply systems thinking to complex, fast moving business problems while dealing with uncertainty and data gaps.
A day in the life
In this role, you be part of the Amazon Devices Sustainability Science and Engineering team. Your responsibilities will include:
* Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for Amazon devices and accessories including modeling, data collection, data analysis, data visualization, and reporting;
* Utilize and improve scalable mechanisms and tools for Amazon devices and accessories LCAs in collaboration with research scientist and software engineering teams;
* Utilize reports, dashboards and metrics that distill complex data into actionable insights to inform product decisions;
* Deliver clear documentation for sustainability assessments and can respond to time critical questions from internal customers;
* Work with research scientists to implement innovative sustainability modeling tools and frameworks to drive business impact and support strategic decision-making.
* Communicate professionally to director level business leaders and provide timely recommendations.

You will be part of the Amazon Devices Sustainability Science and Engineering (DSSE) team that’s responsible for empowering internal and external customers with expert knowledge, analyses, tools, and data needed to make well-informed, sustainability science-based decision.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent;
* 2+ years of relevant industry experience;
* 2+ years experience in program management and/or consulting in sustainability related field.
* Practical experience in conducting product carbon footprint following international standards (i.e., ISO 14067, PAS 2050, GHG Product Protocol Standard);
* Basic knowledge of product LCA and sustainable product design;
* Experience working with stakeholders across both technical and business functions;
* Independently driven, resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction;
* Experience working with cross-functional teams;
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent;
* 2+ years conducting sustainability assessment and/or driving sustainability improvements;
* 2+ years of experience with high-volume consumer electronics products or other electronic products;
* Experience with commercial LCA software and data (e.g. GaBi, SimaPro or other LCA software);
* Experience with AWS services (S3, Redshift);
* Published a peer-reviewed LCA, Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), product environmental footprint (PEF), product carbon footprint (PCF), or similar;
* Experience applying LCA and other quantitative methods to sustainability problems across materials, manufacturing processes, product use, and post-use;
* Strong drive to learn new topics and skills, to develop innovative insights;
* Strong analytical skills, and experience managing complex datasets using Excel and/or SQL;
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with both technical and business leaders.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $107,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
