Job Summary:
The NPI Materials Program Manager is the primary owner of clear-to-build readiness across all development phases (Proto1, EVT, DVT, and PVT), ensuring material availability and qualification status meets program requirements and schedules. This role drives daily execution of material readiness through focused supplier management of COTS components and detailed BOM cost tracking. Operating at the intersection of Hardware Engineering, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sourcing teams, this position requires expert knowledge of consumer electronics BOMs and supply chain dynamics. The role maintains critical visibility of component costs, providing weekly cost analysis and bridges to support design decisions. A key responsibility is managing the systematic transition of materials ownership to Supply Chain team during PVT, ensuring smooth handoff of supplier relationships, open orders, and risk-buy inventory. Success in this role demands strong program management skills to coordinate across global teams, flexibility to manage Asia-based supplier relationships across time zones, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve material risks that could impact build schedules.

Key job responsibilities
Cost Management & Reporting:
* Own overall BOM cost roll-up and maintenance for all NPI projects
* Generate weekly cost bridge reports identifying BOM cost changes and their drivers
* Partner with Hardware Engineering to provide accurate component costs for design decisions
* Track and report cost trends, identifying opportunities for optimization
* Support design-to-cost initiatives by providing cost impact analysis


Materials Management:
* Drive clear-to-build status for all development phases (Proto/EV/DV)
* Support Engineering Program Manager (EPM) with build matrix execution by tracking special material requirements for each build phase, ensuring material availability aligns with build matrix timing, and validating component readiness for build requirements
* Support Operations Program Manager (OPM) with risk-buy execution during xVT phases by providing input on component lead times and availability, tracking inventory exposure and material status, and supporting risk assessment for build schedules

Supplier Collaboration:
* Participate in night calls with Asia-based suppliers (2-3 times per week) to drive critical deliverables and issue resolution
* Partner with Global Supply Manager (GSM) to escalate critical supply chain risks and constraints, provide input on risk-buy decisions and financial impacts, and drive supplier commitment and accountability


Program Management:
* Lead clear-to-build audits with factory teams, including component qualification status, material availability and quality verification, documentation completeness, and production readiness signoffs
* Ensure BOM accuracy and maintain document control for specifications and datasheets
* Monitor and align NPI component costs with mass production cost targets
* Travel to Asia manufacturing sites 1-2 times per year for critical build phases
* Provide coverage support for regional product initiatives as needed


Transition Management:
* Drive structured handoff to Supply Chain team during PVT phase, including transfer of supplier relationships and communications, documentation of open purchase orders and commitments, risk-buy inventory status and disposition plans, outstanding quality or technical issues, and BOM cost tracking and analysis tools
* Partner with Supply Chain team to ensure continuity of material management during transition
* Support Supply Chain team through initial PVT builds as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- 5+ years of supply chain experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of driving process improvements experience
- Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
