Our designs are industry-leading in frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our Firmware Engineers solve challenging technology problems, and build architecturally sound, high-quality components to enable AWS to realize critical business strategies. The Amazon SSD team is a distinct component team supporting EC2 Storage and EBS product teams today with SSD solutions; future products will support other product teams including potentially S3 and EC2 Compute. Amazon SSD is a strategic AWS initiative, to own the full software and hardware stack above the NAND to drive down TCO for Flash-based storage while improving operational excellence for the storage platform. This allows AWS to optimize performance for AWS platform workloads and deliver the best operational experience for our customers. The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative self-starter. You will be an SSD test validation expert with experience in validating SSD operation and performance for a variety of use cases. You will be a member of the HWEng Storage team and will interact with engineers across the team and company to lead and develop automation and infrastructure capabilities to improve SSD drive operational health, qualification and integration across all of supported AWS storage server platforms. You will work with engineers within the team and across the company to lead firmware test development efforts on custom solid-state devices. You will collaborate with internal and external development engineers (architecture, hardware, product, software services). What you will do: You will be a member of a team that will be validating AWS-specific firmware and software for non-volatile memory devices, including NAND-based SSDs. You will be a part of the validation effort from conception, through validation and into production. You will contribute to test development and support infrastructure maintenance and enhancement efforts. Key Responsibilities for this position include authoring requirements specifications for new feature and infrastructure ideas, system design, and development, all while testing at each phase.
