The successful candidate must have a proven record of effective leadership capabilities and demonstrate good judgment while under pressure. They will also be able to operate autonomously, use discretion when dealing with sensitive and critical information, and apply sound business principles and data analysis to identify problems and initiate actions to address them.
This position will require shift work, including frequent night and weekend shifts due to the natural of the role.
Key job responsibilities
- Prepares weather forecasts based on data such as temperatures, humidity, air pressure, and wind velocity provided by weather satellites, radar, recording instruments, and observers across the country and world.
- Oversee a highly automated weather aggregation and reporting service.
- Compares data with previous weather patterns and evaluates probabilities for future weather conditions.
- Delivers forecasts to internal stakeholders at all levels of leadership.
- Attempts to forecast, as accurately as possible, the timing, severity, and exact location of dangerous weather systems such as tornadoes, hurricanes, severe rain storms, and blizzards.
- Relies on prior experience to determine appropriate means of notifying stakeholders of potentially dangerous weather systems.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms to broad audience including high profile stakeholders to translate complex forecast model into concise and easily digestable languages.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or related fields or 5+ years of Professional experience
- 7+ years of meteorology and forecasting future weather events.
- 3+ years of experience on a forecasting team.
- Experience in using meteorological computer systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to deliver concise, understandable, and accurate forecasts.
- Ability to collaborate and influence decisions across organizations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and long hours during a weather emergency.
